Collection: Mary Gair

Growing up in Ontario, with summers spent by the lake, Mary developed a deep love for animals and the natural world. Early explorations in photography sharpened her eye for composition and light, eventually leading to a passion for painting.

Now based in Muskoka’s vibrant arts community, she draws constant inspiration from her surroundings. Initially self-taught, she later enhanced her technical skills through drawing and painting courses at the Art Gallery of Ontario. A turning point came through an online course, where she connected with a remarkable mentor whose guidance significantly elevated her work.

In 2015, she attended an inspiring art retreat in France, painting alongside artists from around the world in a setting rich with creative exchange.

She is currently working on her second series of hockey-themed paintings and has introduced a line of greeting cards featuring her artwork. Additionally, she enjoys painting on flat rocks collected from a beach in Cape Breton. Displayed on small easels, these hand-painted stones offer unique, affordable tabletop art as an alternative to traditional canvas pieces.

The Muskoka Arts & Crafts (MA&C) Summer Show is one of Ontario’s oldest and largest rural outdoor events, serving as a key highlight of the summer season for both residents and visitors alike. This three-day event brings together over 200 of Canada’s most talented artisans, showcasing a diverse array of handcrafted art, from stunning sculptures and intricate jewelry to beautiful textiles and captivating paintings. With an estimated 10,000+ visitors each year, the show is a must-see cultural event in the heart of Muskoka.

As MAC’s largest yearly fundraiser, the Summer Show has a significant economic impact on the region, benefiting local businesses, galleries, and, of course, the artists themselves. The event provides a vital platform for creators to share their work with a wider audience, promoting local talent and strengthening Muskoka’s vibrant arts community. It’s not just a shopping experience; it’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and the spirit of collaboration that defines this stunning region.

In addition to the incredible artistry, the Summer Show also features live local music, entertainment, and an array of delicious food options, creating a vibrant atmosphere where visitors can engage with the arts in a lively and social setting.
